Carbon Sequestration

Due to its chemical structure, biochar is very difficult for microbes in the soil to break down.  This prevents the carbon in the biochar to be released quickly back into the atmosphere. When biocarbon is used as a soil amendment it is a form of carbon sequestration.  This form of carbon is stable and will last in the soil hundreds if not thousands of years.
